The day we thought we were going on holiday...

On Saturday, December 15, I packed my suitcase at my parents' house because mysummer stuff is there, and then my dad brought me to the station. Hendrik got in two stops later and together we traveled to Frankfurt airport.
When we arrived in Frankfurt we went to the counter of Ethopian Airlines to get our boarding passes and check in our luggage. This is when the lady informed us that the flight was overbooked and that they were searching for volunteers who would stay at a (very nice) hotel in Frankfurt including breakfast and dinner and get payed a 600 Euro compensation per person and fly 24 hours later. We arte students and 600 Euros are a lot of money so we simply had to accept. I was in shock. I thought I was going on my long awaited holiday  TODAY and now this.
So to the hotel we went where we had the best burgers in the entire world plus a cocktail for 10 Euros (the airline was paying of course).

Of course we had to take a photo of all the money!

The next morning we had a huge breakfast and went to the hotel pool afterwards where we could watch planes start and land.

The day was mostly spent at the airport since the shops in Frankfurt were closed  on a sunday. I am certain I know every corner of the aiport now! In the evening we finally got our tickets and luggage checked in and proceeded to gate. When we were literally 30 meters away from the plane, we got the same offer again! Do we look so desperate??? Hendrik wanted to consider it, but I told the lady that I would go on holiday today. So we got on the plane and I spent the night next to a guy who apparently had to much to drink and went to the toilet every 20 minutes. In the morning we landed in Ethopia and then got on our next plane to Mombasa where we arrived in the afternoon.
                                                     some old planes!
View from the plane to Mombasa!

A lot of poverty in Mombasa!
                                            They love coke over there!
